Arrested on Boxing Day

Why did the murderer want to steal the necklace and bracelet? Did they have a story accompanying their intrinsic value?

When Jane Daniels is apprehended for shoplifting on Boxing Day, she is not prepared for what happens next. In fact, the bracelet she is supposed to have stolen is part of the estate which belonged to Mrs Evelyn Morris— the murdered victim. However, when Detective Inspector Arthur Gottfried explains that the bracelet is the bait he’s using to attract the murderer into a trap, Jane and Kennedy are anxious to help the detective catch the suspect. The next day, an undercover cop purchases the bracelet at the store and is subsequently attacked by the thief when he is on his way to the parkade. Sam Torkin was trying to convince Mrs Morris to return the jewellery to him when a scuffle ensued and the woman fell on the corner of her dresser and died. What was the motive behind the crime?
