Not just a book about pets. Not just a book about loss. And not just a book about travelling and broadening the mind.

Destination Dachshund rolls them all into one and takes you on a journey much further than the European adventure depicted within its pages. It is a book about coming to terms with loss of family and of much-loved family pets. It is a book filled with fun and laughter, even amidst the pain and heartache of bereavement. And above all it is a book about the love of a family.

From the shores of Sydney to Europe, Russia and the United States and back again, see the world through three generations, as they travel for 3 months on the vacation of a lifetime, filled with love, adventure, hope and recovery.

Written with tenderness and affection throughout, Destination Dachshund is a book which will have you laughing out loud and looking for one of these little dogs everywhere you go.

Reader Reviews
‘What a wonderfully captivating read! Destination Dachshund is a humorous, yet moving memoir of a three generational family’s journey through Europe and the USA.’ — 5 stars, Melissa, Sydney

‘Destination Dachshund is a truly delightful read with many laugh out loud moments. And it isn’t just a book about travel – even though the extraordinary array of travel experiences captured between the pages is epic. The author unpacks with warmth and humour the intricacies of family relationships, our love of pets, and the joys of travelling with dodgy-kneed grandparents. And then there’s the hilarious dachshund spotting competition. I now find myself scanning walkways and parks for these spunky little dogs.’ — 5 stars, Vanessa, Sydney

“Can’t wait to read it again. Fantastic book!”

Five Star Review on Amazon By H Farrelly

I stayed up all night reading this! (photo of me still in my dressing gown!) Every time I went to put it down I came across another section that I ‘had’ to read first. I have travelled to many of the places the author went and I still didn’t know half of the things she talks about! Have been writing notes to myself for next time I am there. The dachshund spotting competition was hilarious-who knew they were such a popular dog in Europe?!
Ms Fleetwoods writing style is great and made me feel like I was back in Europe, seeing everything with her. It is funny, light hearted and packed with info. Loss threads through the book and she talks candidly about the death of her Father and of her dog Coco and how that has affected her and the family as a whole. It didn’t dominate the book however but seemed to tie everything together. So happy I grabbed this when I saw it. Fantastic book that I will be recommending to my family and friends.
