“It’s a beautiful view of the author’s personal spiritual journey”
Five Star Review on Amazon By mathphilosopher
Marlene Hershey’s “God Steps” is a collection of Christian quotes. The quotes are written in the form of proverbs. It’s a beautiful view of the author’s personal spiritual journey. Perhaps her walk will help you with your walk. I know some of these proverbs embody exactly what I have learned on my journey. My favorite quotes are:
“We are echoes of God’s love within us.”
“Those who attempt to belittle cannot destroy the heart of one who owns his self-worth.”
“Appeasement with the loss of self-identity does not build character.”
About the Author
Marlene Hershey hosted her own TV show entitled Hearthside Hymns, which aired for seventeen years on the NBC affiliate station WGAL-TV in Lancaster, Pennsylvania. On her TV show, Marlene sang and performed on the piano and organ. Her two daughters occasionally joined her on vocals and flute. Other musical guests were featured, as well, on her show. She also had a radio program on WBYO-FM in Boyertown, Pennsylvania, called Musical Moments. People still recognize her on the streets many years later.
Having only had one year of piano instruction herself, Marlene taught piano and organ for many years and often had a waiting list of musicians wanting to be taught. Amazingly, she was able to sight-read and arrange her own music and was self-taught on the organ.
Marlene and her daughters, the Hershey-ettes, performed at numerous weddings, concerts, churches, and mother-daughter banquets. Marlene produced ten albums, four of which included her daughters. They also performed together on the Grand Old Gospel Hour at the Grand Ole Opry House in Nashville, Tennessee, with Roy Acuff as the emcee.
In addition to her two daughters, Marlene is also the mother of a gifted son. As her children grew, she was asked what she’d like to do with the rest of her life. Her reply: “I always wanted to be a nurse, but I need high school algebra and chemistry.” It was a challenge, but she returned to high school to finish those courses so she could begin her nursing program at Millersville University. Marlene graduated as a registered nurse in 1994.
Marlene’s latest venture involves authoring a book, the format of which is inspirational quotes that are primarily written as proverbs designed to cushion one’s journey in life. Writing these quotes was borne out of life experiences, psychological insights, strong faith in God, educational training, and wisdom gleaned from observation. The title is “God Steps.” An example of one of the quotes is as follows: “Every rose has thorns that do not hinder it from blossoming. Seek to find enriched beauty among life’s unpleasantness.” The book is published by WestBow Press, a division of Thomas Nelson Publishing Company.
Marlene’s faith in God has greatly influenced her decisions, which is evident in the songs and proverbs that she writes. It is Marlene’s desire that those who listen to her music and read her inspirational writings will be motivated to live a courageous life.
