Shahly’s Quest: The Chronicles of Brawrloxoss, Book 1

This is a very well-written book, very polished. The plot certainly has some interesting twists. The characters are very immersive.

This book is a great and fast paced read, especially if you love a pinch of romance. Told from the perspective of a unicorn, you follow Shahly on her journey to save her stallion. Along the way, she becomes a human and is suddenly bombarded by all the emotions to engenders. Reminiscent of The Last Unicorn, Shahly struggles with keeping her unicorn identity. This book will keep you entranced and wanting more. Great book!

Honestly, when I bought this book, I was expecting it to be just a silly story. But it had unicorns, so I bought it. Because, you know, unicorns. To my delight, it turned out to be much deeper than I expected. Yes, there is quite a lot that happens in only 3 days, but that is actually normal. When things are going crazy in your own life, time seems to stretch sometimes. I found the characters to be well-developed. Shahly, the main character, is a unicorn transformed into a human. She cycles between being a very naive human who is clueless add to what she's doing, and being a wise, ethereal being. Which makes sense because she's a unicorn (wise, ethereal being) pretending to be a human (beings she knows little to nothing about). There were a couple of plot holes I wish had more explanation. I'd love to know the actual back story of Nillerra - there are suggestions and hints, but nothing concrete to explain what made her so vengeful. I'd also love to know what the heck is going on with the Queen. She's this weird, mysterious, scary presence, but no concrete explanation is given for it. In spite of this, however, the story overall was wonderful. Fast-paced and constantly engaging. I'm glad I picked it up!
