“Spirit Woman” builds off of my past and includes the true stories of three other women who suffered from domestic abuse. Wrapped into one, heart-rending story, “Spirit Woman” tells the tale of Nickie Bahiti (buy-a-tie – ghost or spirit) Greene. Desperate for love, she grabs it when she can and finds herself in a living hell.
As the story unfolds, we are witness to Nickie’s bravery and the loyalty and courage of her friend Beau. Does she escape and does Beau manage to save her, or will she ride the wing of Wakinyan Zitka (Wah-keen-yahn-zheet-kah – The Thunderbird) to the edge of the universe where she would walk the five steps to the Spirit Path and into the Spirit World?
“Beautifully written, I thought I would give this author …”
Five Star Review on Amazon By vmaxnick
Beautifully written, I thought I would give this author a try after reading and enjoying Dana Stabenow’s Kate Shugak series about Alaskan Aleut natives. I wasn’t disappointed. The subject matter is somewhat disturbing, tackling as it does, spousal abuse and rape, but by about half way through, I was empathising with the lead character Nickie and perhaps falling for her just a little, the way most of the male characters do. I think it was Erica Jong that I first heard say that ‘All men are potential rapists’. There may be some truth in this, coupled with the notion of ‘original sin’. Yes, every man has the tools to commit rape, but moral upbringing, maternal love, and respect teaches us not to want to. A very nice touch is the addition of thought provoking original poetry. I am not a spiritual person but enjoyed the way the author introduced this extra dimension to the story.
