The Motherhood Conspiracy explores the evolution of motherhood from inception through the death of the mother figure. It strives to capture the spectrum of experiences and emotions a mother encounters along her life’s journey. Included in this selection are poems based upon my own experiences as a mother of a daughter who suffers from schizophrenia, bipolar I disorder, and Asperger’s syndrome, an Autism spectrum disorder. I wrote this book to help me think, cope with, and document the varying levels of motherhood, including the joys of pregnancy and birth, the devastation of raising a special needs daughter, the bond between mother and child, the loss of self, determination and survival, and finally, the emergence of a new soul, reborn in the aftermath of motherhood.
